Few candidates have generated as much buzz as Castro, a 37-year-old rising star viewed as a leader among the next generation of Hispanic pols. Castro is doing his part to match the hype, raising $500,000 during the opening quarter of his campaign — a sum that indicates he can keep pace with his Democratic opponent, Rep. Lloyd Doggett, one of the most formidable fundraisers in the House. Doggett raised $375,000 during the third quarter and has $3.3 million cash on hand.
